Macbeth

With HOWARD PRODUCTIONS, TNT is reviving its highly acclaimed version of Shakespeare's darkest and most exciting tragedy (and the first TNT performance brought to Geneva by HOWARD PRODUCTIONS in 2002). This is a full-blooded production that reveals the power of Shakespeare's dark masterpiece. Here the witches are the source of the dramatic energy of the play, depicted as shamans, wild forest spirits - neither men nor women - and they inhabit the entire play. Macbeth himself is a warrior, not a thinker, a man of courage whose bravery is corrupted by overreaching ambition. His wife is also a type of witch - this is a Lady Macbeth who calls down the spirits to “unsex me here“, but she is possessed, and destroys the demons she thought to command. In contrast the porter scene is a comic and acrobatic dance that is genuinely funny. This production not only has striking visual imagery, but also live music with a fully integrated score composed by Paul Flush.

MACBETH was TNT’s artistic director Paul Stebbings’ first major Shakespeare production. Its success spawned a cycle of outdoor ADGE Castle Tours performances that has generated international acclaim and most of which HP has brought to the Geneva area. From Tehran to Shanghai and Oxford to Oslo, TNT's vibrant and dynamic approach to Shakespeare has stirred enthusiasm from audiences and critics alike.
